Shabby Chic Fall Family Photo shoot

Swanky Soiree had the pleasure of working with the wonderful Alisa Sue Photography today for her Fall Mini's.  The shabby chic set up turned out so beautiful. We love doing set design for photographers like Alisa. She is always a pleasure to work with and has a great sense of style, trends and what her clients are looking for. Alisa gave us a idea of what she wanted and I knew exactly where she was going. We created a vision board of our ideas for  her clients, then raided some local salvage yards and our Swanky Soiree prop room. So what is shabby chic and how do you create the look. Shabby chic (pronounced: "sheek") is a form of interior design where furniture and furnishings are either chosen for their appearance of age and signs of wear and tear or where new items are distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique. At the same time, a soft, opulent, yet cottage-style decor, often with an affected feel is emphasized to differentiate it from genuine period decor. Doors- these were plain brown doors that I painted with numerous layers of  different color paint. Then sanded with steel wool. Lace Shutters- These where vintage windows from a old building. We blew out the glass and replaced with a  soft lace. It is a great contrast to the hard dark doors. Chandelier-Choose a Rococo style light fixture. Their style was ornate and used light colours, asymmetrical designs, curves, and gold. I really wanted to lighten it so I used a white light. It popped off of the door perfectly.  Chaise Lounge- We used this cottage style chaise lounge. In addition to a Rococo style you can use Cottage chic Beach cottage chic French country Gustavian (Swedish) Side Table- this is a [...]

Christmas and New Year party themes for 2013

CHRISTMAS What's trending: "White Christmas" is a popular theme this year, where everything from the food to the decor is all-white. It's a clean, photogenic look that works with any style and is absolutely timeless, plus it's easy to create. Signature bars organized around a single theme are also popular, with styles ranging from modern and sophisticated to rustic and simple, with cocktails to match. Top decor: It's all about simplicity this year. Deck the tree in all-white decorations to set the tone. Gifts can be beautifully wrapped in white paper, so they can serve as decor at parties before they're opened on Christmas morning. Recipe suggestions: Beautifully styled and presented food always elevates a celebration. To keep with the theme of simplicity, purchase rather than make your food, and display it really well for an elegant look without all the work. For hosts who wish to bake, try making gingerbread reindeer, espresso Kahlua balls or peanut butter holiday blossoms. Top etiquette tip: If you're attending a work-related holiday party, don't post photos of your boss or coworkers on social media without asking them first. NEW YEAR'S EVE What's trending: Champagne and dessert parties are popular this year, as well as interactive desserts, starting with the old classics -- fondue and s'mores. DIY bubble bars are also "popping" up. Top decor: No New Year's party is complete without a confetti bar. Set out a few glass vases or apothecary jars filled with confetti. Include treat bags and scoops, and invite guests to mix their own confetti to toss at midnight. Recipe suggestions: Try roasted holiday nuts with lemon & rosemary, classic profiteroles, and festive Jello vodka shots. Top etiquette tip: Put your cell phone on [...]
