I am not sure about you, but when I receive any form of wedding invitation, save the date, or thank you card it immediately goes on my fridge. I love having a subtle reminder every day that I have a wedding to go too. However, if you are a budget bride and don’t realize how expensive stamps are, maybe considering an e-vite is a good idea. A book of stamps (usually 20 stamps) can cost anywhere from $10-$15 dollars depending on style.

Pros of Paper Invites

  • It’s nice to have the traditional piece of elegant paper on your fridge or calendar for subtle reminders
  • A paper invitation can give a sense of theme to the event
  • An opportunity to be creative and unique with the design through multiple sources of websites. Stylizing your invites are endless options!
  • Everyone has a physical mailing address compared to an email or facebook
  • A little more private and less of a risk for being exposed to unwanted comments or guests

Cons of Paper Invites

  • Not budget friendly at all. You’re getting double the stamps to send it to your guests, and then a stamp for their return RSVP letter. If that guest isn’t attending your event, you just ate the cost for paper, print, the stamps, and your time.
  • For our nature lovers, it’s not very eco-friendly either. So those guests that are attending your wedding, let’s hope the cherish your invite and not toss it away.
  • The time it takes for you to get everyone’s formal titles, addresses and track their RSVPS it’s a lot of effort that you may not want to deal with.

Pros of Paperless Invites (E-vite)

  • Low costs or even free. Great for budget brides, even if you are torn between a formal paper one or not. You can always do Save the Dates via email and save money on postage with that.
  • Easy RSVP tracking on whichever site you decide to use. The immediate Yes or No response saves time and energy in tracking.
  • All your guests can see who is attending your wedding. This could fall in between both pro and con, but may be easier for them to know virtually, rather than ask around, and ask someone who wasn’t invited.
  • If using an app for e-vites, this can ultimately turn into  a digital archive, keep-safe box, or time capsule. Meaning, you can keep all photos and videos from pre wedding, wedding, and post wedding!
  • Easy to sync up and make updates if things change as wedding planning continues, no need to call everyone when your e-vite will resend it for you automatically.

Cons of Paperless Invites

  • Out of sight out of mind – meaning they can easily be missed, or they scan through and not really pay attention to all the smaller details added.
  • Many people today unfortunately view the invitation as less important or relevant, and so may decide to pass, with or without informing the host. Not good manners or behavior, but this does happen frequently today.
  • All your friends/family have changed emails or your Nana just doesn’t have a smart phone or computer in general.
  • If you have all correct emails, make sure it doesn’t land in their junk/spam folder!
