Bouquet Glossary

Have you picked out a florist yet? Do you know what kind of bouquet you'd like? Nosegay? Pompander? Cascading? Am I speaking a foreign language? Ha! No worries - we are going to break it down to simple terms that we can all understand! Bouquet Shapes Composite Made up of different petals or buds - wired together on a single stem Cascade A waterfall-like spill of blooms either anchored in a holder or hand tied Pageant Similar to Cascade, but slightly more compact and pulled together Round The more buttoned-up version of the hand-tied bouquet, tied with a ribbon Hand Tied A classic choice, its simply a dense bunch of flowers loosely tied together Posy One of the more popular options, its a small, round bouquet tied with ribbon Pompander A flower covered ball shape tied with a ribbon (this is perfect for flower girls!) Nosegay A compact, cluster of flowers, wrapped tight and cut to one uniform length. Have you checked out the best of the best of Sarasota's Florists? Stay tuned for our top 5 favorite Florists!

Something Old, Something new

We've all heard the phrase, Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe" This tradition comes from an Old English rhyme and the four objects that the bride adds to her wedding outfit or carries with her on the big day are just good luck charms. Something old represents continuity; something new offers optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness; something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity; and a sixpence in your shoe is a wish for good fortune and prosperity, although this remains largely a British custom

#VendorTipTuesday

Are you feeling torn with your hair styles? We have a great tip from The Destiny & Light Hair and Makeup Group by Priscilla Marie: My tip for beach brides, especially early morning weddings that will be blessed with the morning dew. Do a mixture of tight and loose curls. Most brides want the loose curl look, but then are upset when the curls fall within an hour of the ceremony. If your hair doesn't normally hold a curl, then let your stylist add some tighter curls to the style. It will not take away from your hair length and as your looser curls start to drop you still have some curls that will last until the last dance. I used a 1 inch and 1 1/4 inch barrel and alternated in the set. I loved the result of this technique.

#WeddingTipTuesday

We love talking about florals! We got to sit side by side with the Floral Guru herself this morning, Becki Creighton, owner of Flowers by Fugdie! She has a great tip for brides to think about before they start considering their flowers: "When brides are picking out flowers for there wedding there are a few points that I think are important. For our Sarasota or Florida brides, planning out door weddings using fresh flowers, you need to think of what flowers holds best in the heat, especially for those weddings in late May through Sept.  For example, hydrangea will not last, if  used on arches or chair clusters, as they need lots of water.  They are not happy when  the arch has to be completed an hour or so before the wedding as the sun is harsh on them and they wilt down quickly.   You can use hydrangea, those times of the year for bridal  and bridesmaids bouquets, with caution.  Keep in mind stems of the bouquets should be  wrapped with the bases of the stems exposed and in water at all times except when you are doing photo before."

Wedding Planning Timeline

Prioritizing your planning is important - but so is the timing! We're sharing WeddingWire's Vendor booking timeline to give you a good idea of when you should be booking what. Another benchmark for your calendar is the Rehearsal Dinner / Farewell Brunch should also be booked around the same time as choosing your caterer, especially if you get married during peak wedding and or tourist season. Consider when you apply for your Marriage License! In Florida, if you are a resident there is a 3 day waiting period from the day you apply. It would be quite unfortunate if you went to apply the day before you are supposed to get married. There is no waiting period for non-residents.

Prioritizing your Wedding Planning

Getting married is every girl (or guys) dream! Most of us are guilty of having a Wedding Pinterest board before we even get engaged - I know I did! Fast Forward - you're engaged! Congratulations! Let the ring selfies, Feyonce references and hashtag brainstorming begin. Fast forward again, once the excitement has settled and the reality of wedding planning sinks in the big question is - What happens next? Do all the fun things that you like first, right? Buy a dress? Pick a theme? Pick our bridal party gifts? WRONG! We're here to help you prioritize your Wedding planning. Step 1 is NOT to buy a dress, this should actually be one of the latter steps of your planning process believe it or not. Step 1. Establish your budget - and keep track of your spending Who's paying for what? Always a popular topic- as this sets the tone for your wedding spending! This depends heavily on how traditional or modern you and your family are. These days we notice that there are no rules when it comes to who's paying what - we have lots couples paying for their own weddings! And of course weddings funded by both sides of parents, or sometimes only one side. Discuss with your fiancé what vendors are most important to you and where you are okay with spending more or less money. Step 2. Pick a Venue for your ceremony and reception. Consider if our venue has any inclusions as far as a coordinator, tables, chairs, linens, a caterer etc. Some locations are a one stop shop - while some require you to rent everything. If you have multiple locations, consider Transportation for your guests. If this [...]

2018 Wedding Trends

We've got a fun list of a few trends sure to make your 2018 Wedding awesome! Texture! Whether its on your wedding dress or your invitations. We are loving all aspects bringing a different "feel" to your special day!   Woodsy is the new Rustic. We know what you're thinking, barn, burlap and wood stump centerpieces. Let's hit the refresh button and welcome greenery as the main décor as well as color scheme. Say goodbye to gold, brass and rose gold - and hello to silver and chrome! Hanging Flowers! Keep the guest table simple and turn your focus to ceiling treatments.   Interactive guest elements - photo booths are an awesome way to entertain guests, but instead of the literal closed in booth, have an open "booth" with a backdrop. The mirror booth has become very popular! Changing the props from the traditional paper cutout props, have a giant picture of you and your future hubby's head!   But we'll be honest... a paper cut out can still be fun! We've also seen some fun DIY stations that are sure to keep guests talking about your wedding for weeks to come. Desserts have taken a turn for the best! We now see popsicles, cotton candy, meringues and custards. BUT bride's are still keeping it traditional by having a small cake for the cake cutting ceremony - because lets admit it, we all want that classic picture in our album like the one our parents have in theirs.
