Glamorous Gothic Weddings

It's the end of October which is still considered a popular time for weddings to be held. We are nearing the end of fall and creeping into winter. Nature itself is getting ready to change for the seasons and the weather is still beautiful for your wedding day. However, instead of a classic white wedding, the bare trees and Halloween might bring a different vibe to your wedding day. If you're not into the elegant white wedding, a glamorous gothic wedding with darker color schemes maybe more your style. This look is just as beautiful and elegant and does not include tacky Halloween decorations. It takes the "Until Death Do Us Part" to a whole new level. I hope this post inspires you to think differently and see that there is more than just white and gold weddings. Themed Invitations & Stationary Start showing your theme and preparing your guests right from the beginning with your invitations. A darker color scheme using black, plum, dark red and burgundy will set the tone. You could always go further with the gothic theme and include skulls, and make a play on ouija board. Make sure to include on your invites if you want your guests to dress up in costume, or black attire only. Be specific with your wedding, is it a Halloween party, or is it a "Gothic Matrimony".   Dressing the Part If you are not going for a white wedding, maybe you decide to not wear a white dress either. If you are wearing a white dress, add a darker color belt around your waist and let the bouquet pop with darker florals. Your bridal party can play the part with darker [...]

Wedding Misfits & Mistakes

We plan for months, initiate extra help, and pray that all goes well. However, as planners we always consider troubleshooting day of, and have one or two extra plans in the work just in case THAT something does happen. In this post, you will see some common problems we see day of an event that can happen. Don't stress when reading! There are always back up plans and conversations that are to be had prior to your day.   Weather / Outside Reception Plan This conversation is a big one for our outdoor venues and nontraditional weddings. Don't look at the weather too far out in advance as it is most likely going to change (especially in Florida). Make sure you have a back up plan with your venue and coordinator. Also, make sure you know the cut off time to make a rain call, some ask for it 48 hours in advance while others will let you make the call up to 5 hours before your wedding begins. Just remember, old myths say rain is a sign of good luck on your wedding day! Take advantage of a beautiful picture with your photographer in the rain! You can make sure your guests are comfortable, by providing cute umbrellas for them. Have a good attitude and your guests will feed on the good vibes. On the flip side, it may be super sunny and not a cloud in sight! With destination weddings outside, a good idea is to have a water station of some sort, or a cute bucket of sunscreen available. If the reception is in the evening and outside, a small bug repellent station is a great perk to have! You [...]

Finding Fall Florals

Finding a perfect florist that fits in your budget is important. Another key factor is what flowers are in season during the time of your wedding. This can lead into budget friendly bouquets, and a variety of looks you have available for that time. Autumn is a time where blooming flowers tend to slow down, however there are still summer flower that often continue to bloom well into the fall. Marigolds are fuller looking flowers that come in orange or yellow. Bright and colorful, they can be used in bouquets, or garland seen in Indian culture weddings.   Carnations are a popular flower to add to any bouquet. They come in all different colors, pair best with almost any flower and greenery. Also very inexpensive! Chrysanthemums  flowers come in multiple colors and sizes. They can be big and beautiful and make great pops to any wedding bouquet. Roses are red, and white, and pink, and yellow and a timeless classic. They come in all colors, shapes , and sizes! Daisies have several different varieties and are found usually towards the end of summer going into fall. They make for great fillers, or just solely on their own. These flowers are also super cute and fun and can make for a great crown! Lilies also come in different variety's and are fragrant and colorful. If you're looking for a timeless white wedding Calla Lillie's are your piece to add to your decor. Goldenrod flowers are a great filler, and make for a great pop of color to any piece. A Fairy Tale Wedding

We had done a Nerdy Nuptials post recently, but what we didn't add in there was Disney themed ideas. There is so many different ways to incorporate Disney into your wedding. Whether it's all the movies or just one, we felt that it deserved it's own blog post. From magical venues in the area, to silly decor items and displays you can add just a touch, or add it all! If you are wanting a wedding at the actual Cinderella Castle in Disney World be prepared for the following. In order to have your ceremony in front of the castle, which allows for just 100 people and a ceremony time of 9:30 a.m. sharp, there is a $25,000 minimum fee. That's excluding food and beverage and other expenditure minimums, which could total up to $75,000 or more. We find that most of our couples don't have that large of a budget for their wedding day. Instead, here are some fun ideas you can do for your wedding!    Draping & Lighting I started this one first because there are millions of pictures on our website, pinterest, and facebook where you can see how beautiful lights and chiffon draping are. For a magic touch and feeling a ceiling piece with draping and chandeliers can make quite the difference in ambiance. Add a touch of colored uplights around the room and it makes truly unforgettable.   Centerpieces With Disney, you can focus on one movie or all of them. Each table can be a different centerpiece based on a different movie. Adding little items like gold or silver mercury votive candles, and candelabras can make an elegant touch. Also, beautiful flowers that coincide with the [...]

Venue Spotlight: Zota Beach Resort

Swanky Soiree is so lucky to be located in an area full of beach front venues. Zota Beach Resort located on Longboat Key, Florida has the white sugar sands, and modern look all in one. Zota's event spaces and hotel rooms are just as beautiful as the view given to you when you're here. This resort includes a pool with private cabanas surrounding it, two bars and a restaurant. We have experienced divine and relaxing events held here and couldn't imagine a better place to be. The Beach at Zota Firstly, the beach front property is open to host their visitors and wedding ceremonies alike. There are two entrances to the beach front from the resort, and one is designated for a ceremony processional order. Barefoot brides are welcomed in a tropical setting with the ocean waves as their backdrop. The Sandy Garden This space is adjacent to the pool and cabanas. All sand, and can host 100 people comfortably with a dance floor. Can be used as a cocktail hour, or reception area. If your worried about the sun beating to hard, or rain falling down don't be. You can set up a tent in this area for all weather planning purposes and still look elegant. The Zara Zota Ballroom The ballroom is located on the second floor, filled with contemporary chandeliers and neutral colors. This ballroom is spacious and can host up to 150 people comfortably. All though you don't see the views of the Gulf Coast, it doesn't put a damper into how beautiful the ballroom can be decorated.

Finding Fun in Finding Your Seat

One of the biggest questions Swanky gets, is should we do assigned seating or not? The answer (for us at least) will always be a big YES! From a planners point of view, there are several issues that can arise when not doing assigned seating. The biggest issue, is it brings back the feeling of "cliques" where some guests want to sit together, and there might not be enough seats set up at that specific table. This ultimately makes guests feel left out, or lost and uncomfortable finding a seat with people they may not know. The venue and caterers work hard with planners and decorators to get table displays beautiful. When one guest wants to move to another table, it off sets the element and symmetry of that tablescape. When this happens, the catering or venue staff have to stop what they are doing and make sure to move everything. This can then set your timeline off by 10-15 minutes! Bite the bullet, and do your guests a solid by creating a seating chart or place cards with their table assignment. No need to tell them they need to sit at seat 1, just table 1. If you need help or inspiration with creating a seating chart or place cards, Swanky is here to help! Here are some of our favorite seating charts and place cards we have done or seen in the past.   Mirrored & Acrylic Seating Chart Vintage or Framed mirrors are the best to display. They have a classy and elegant touch to them. You can use vinyl sticker that peel right off afterwards, or chalk markers that easily wash off with cleaning supplies. The acrylic slabs have become more [...]

An Apple a Day for your Wedding Day

September is such a great month in so many different ways but especially because fall is approaching. It's the start of the humidity and heat coming down, and the beautiful colors of nature changing. Also, the smell of the crisp air in the morning, and the season for apples, gourds, and pumpkins! When we think of September, we think of Apples! Johnny Appleseed himself was born in September and it's a classic gift to give to your teacher on the first day of school! This post will most likely be focusing on Apples and how can you incorporate them into a special event! Such a delicious fruit to eat on its own, cut up and dip into peanut butter, or bake into a pie. Here in Florida, we find it hard to find apple orchards, or experience the art of apple picking. All though if apples and fall are in your favor, here are some fun ideas to browse through and get creative with for your event!   Fall in Love with the Venues Apple Orchards are hard to find in Florida, however you can still get the same environment with a winery, or rustic barn. Usually large open fields, orchards, or farms can make a beautiful back drop for a ceremony and reception (weather permitting of course). The scenery is great for photos, fresh air, and some fun! A piece of advice, make sure you're aware of "hunting season" as far as birds or little creatures go. The worst would be hearing shots go off in the middle of your ceremony...talk about a gunshot wedding!   Fun Signage and Decor A simple and rustic wedding look doesn't have to be that hard! [...]

Nerdy Nuptials

Here at Swanky, we love to get to know our couples and their favorite interests and hobbies. There are couples that have all kinds of fun activities and favorite movies or shows that bring them together. Each category in this blog are different ideas we have seen at events, online, or through posts. These all come from other vendors and couples that got their creativity on when trying to include their personalities through their decor. You will find most of them include a comic, a favorite move or tv series, or roll playing games such as World of Warcraft and Dungeons & Dragons. We love helping get that nerdy touch to your special day! The creativity, and imagination behind each piece or detail really reflects the couple together as a whole. Plus, why wouldn't you want to share that with your friends and family!? We only hope that this post will help spark your creative touch when looking into ways to incorporate the, maybe not so traditional, decor items. Star Wars Theme In the different lands of space and time there are several ways to incorporate some Star Wars into your wedding. The Comic-Con like Weddings are great for an nontraditional (but traditional) wedding, especially including the lightsaber send off. It will definitely be a wedding to remember! National Wife Appreciation Day

It is that time of the year, Wife Appreciation Day! This national holiday falls on every third Sunday in September. It doesn't matter how long you have been married for, a small notion to show her love is all that is needed. This day is not as big as Valentines Day, or even an anniversary. This day is for kind reminders and tiny gestures of appreciation. You may do this everyday already to your spouse, but why not make it a national holiday?! There are some great ideas out there that are simple but packed with meaning. Cooking dinner for her, and popping a nice bottle of wine or champagne to accompany is a great start. Curling and cuddling up on the couch to binge watch the latest TV series makes a relaxing night. A handwritten note to throw in her lunch, makes it personal and affectionate throughout her day. Flowers, kisses and hugs are all she needs on this holiday! Remind your wife she is amazing, and have a great day!

Puppy Love at Weddings

The latest trend, that hopefully never dies down, is including your furry friend on your special day. Some couples have human babies, and some have furry babies. Your babies, no matter human or animal, big or small, mean a lot to you and of course you want them to take "Paw-t" in your day! If this is an important decision to make, choosing a venue that is pet-friendly is a definite must. Most outdoor venues, are dog friendly. If your ceremony is on the beach, make sure to check local regulations about dogs being allowed on the beach. There are so many ways to include your pet, starting from Save the Date photos, and ending with Reception fun. Here are some fun ideas to incorporate your furry friend so they don't miss out on the paw-ty either!   Pre-Wedding Photo Fun Save-the-Dates, along with Engagement & Wedding announcements have grown in spreading the word with a photo shoot. Clever ways to intertwine your pup in pictures are accompanying him/her with signs or bandanas that say, "Dog of Honor" or "Best Dog". A photographer that has patience, loves animals, and a drive to get the right picture makes the perfect equation for a perfect announcement. But don't let your pup steal the spotlight, get that one "money shot" and let your dog be a dog.  Here are some cute photos and examples of what couples are doing to spread the word of their engagement!   Ceremony Canines Pets are known to help reduce anxiety. Before you walk down the aisle, spend a few moments snuggling your sweet pooch. If doing programs, list your pooch as a bridesmaid or a groomsmen. Another great way to [...]

There are plenty of meaningful and cost effective presents that show gratitude for the help your bridal party is giving. If your budget is on the lower scale of those costs, that is ok!  No matter what, I'm sure your bridesmaids and groomsmen will love anything you give them! Here are some options that may be best for you and your bridal party. Jewelry A sparkly thank you can make any one feel special, your bridesmaids especially. Venue Spotlight: Imagine Museum

Part of being an Event Planner requires some knowledge of locating unique and special venues. This helps us advise you on latest place to host your event. If you already have a venue chosen, that is a great start to any party planning! However, we have found that there are clients that approach us and need some direction in venue searching. Today, that direction will be steering you towards St. Petersburg, Florida to the Imagine Museum. As much as Swanky Soiree is home to the Sarasota/Manatee County area we are always open to the greater Tampa Bay area and finding unique places. Our latest site tour visit was with the Social Events Coordinator at the Imagine Museum. From the street it's a contemporary modern building set in cool tones that makes it more inviting in the hot days of summer. As you walk in, the bright whiteness of the front desk and gift shop adds to the sleek modern look. All around are columns and pillars featuring glass art gifts, cards, and jewelry from all over the world. You can't help but browse around and look at how amazing and different the jewelry and knick knacks are. Here is what you can do with this space. The lobby area is large and wide creating an airy flow with soft spot lights in the ceiling to feature their latest glass art.  The bottom floor of the museum is large enough for events of up to 150 people standing or 100 people sitting.  They offer their outside lot for larger events, but consider renting a tent just in case! It's a perfect fit for your business that is seeking a unique spot to host a [...]
